Chinese Cold Tofu
Tofu is high in plant-based protein and contains all nine essential amino acids. It is also a great source of minerals such as iron, calcium, manganese, and phosphorus! This dish is comforting and reminds me of my childhood in Hong Kong, as it was something I used to eat all the time, paired with rice and steamed vegetables for a light and refreshing meal. Raw garlic is also extremely beneficial, and is often applauded for its medicinal properties in Chinese culture.
- Yield: 2 servings 1x
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package of soft tofu/silken tofu
- 2–3 stalks of green onion, chopped into small pieces
- 1–2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
Instructions
- Open and drain the package of tofu.
- Slice in half horizontally, then slice vertically (don’t cut all the way through to prevent the tofu from falling apart) in both directions to form cubes.
- Pour the sesame oil and soy sauce over the tofu, and garnish with lots of green onion and garlic.
- Alternatively, if you don’t like raw garlic, you can heat up the sesame oil on the stove and pour the hot oil over the garlic, onion and tofu for a toasted flavour.
- Enjoy with rice for a comforting meal or as a side dish on its own!
