April is the month of asparagus! From grilling, boiling, frying, or steaming, there are endless possibilities of how you can incorporate them into your diet. Here are some reasons why you should include asparagus as part of your meals:

  1.  Asparagus is particularly high in insoluble fiber. Insoluble fiber is important for aiding with regular bowel movements and adding bulk to our stool. Therefore, the more asparagus you eat, the more insoluble fiber you get to help your gut!
  2. Asparagus is a rich source of folate. Folate is extremely important for our health, especially when it comes to pregnancy. It can provide 22% of a pregnant woman’s daily folate needs!
  3. Potassium is a mineral that is present in asparagus. Studies have shown that individuals who increase their potassium intake lower their risk for stroke as well as heart disease.
