Hojicha Latte with Soy Vanilla Sweet Foam

Hojicha is a roasted green tea that originated in Japan. It has a nutty and woody flavour which has made it an increasingly popular taste for desserts and drinks. Due to the roasting process, hojicha is low in caffeine, making it ideal to drink at any time of the day or for those with caffeine sensitivities. Hojicha contains antioxidants which can help fight free radicals. It also includes the amino acid L-Theanine, which eases stress and provides a feeling of relaxation. It also contains vitamins like vitamin C, which boosts your immune system. Soy milk is high in protein and is the best option for dairy-free milk foams. This recipe is easy to make and is perfect for those rainy nights and after a long day for the ultimate relaxation!

Ingredients

  • 2 hojicha tea bags 
  • 1 ⅔ cups boiling water 
  • ½ cup soy milk 
  • ¼  tsp salt 
  • 1 tsp agave syrup 
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the hojicha with boiling water and let steep for a few minutes and remove tea bags. Add a sweetener of your choice at this step if desired. 
  2. Warm the soy milk in the microwave for around 45 seconds or on the stove until steam forms.
  3. Once warmed, put the soy milk, agave syrup, vanilla extract and salt in a blender. Blend for 2 minutes and let stand for one minute to allow the foam to form. 
  4. Pour the foam on top of the hojicha and enjoy!
