These delicious energy bites leave you feeling satiated and energized for hours! They are so easy to whip up and can be stored in the fridge for up to a week and in the freezer for up to three months, so perfect for batch-making and meal-prepping. These energy bites are kid-friendly and can be a recess or after-school snack for them! These are very versatile – feel free to use any nut or seed butter, cacao nibs instead of chocolate chips. You can make these gluten-free by using gluten-free oats, and make this vegan by using honey instead of maple syrup and vegan chocolate chips. These energy bites contain whole grains, which are rich in fiber and B-vitamins. Fiber is essential to a healthy diet as it maintains regular bowel movements, can help to lower blood cholesterol levels, and maintain a healthy gut. B-vitamins are important for our nervous and blood systems and are used in enzymatic reactions in our bodies. Peanut butter (or other nut and seed butters) is a good source of healthy fats. Fat is one of our body’s main energy sources, contributes to the feeling of satiety and brings taste and palatability to our food. Chia seeds are a good source of the essential omega-3 fatty acid. Essential fatty acids cannot be made in our bodies, so they can only be obtained through our food and are important for making non-essential fatty acids in our bodies that are used to maintain our normal body functions.
